Today the Department of Phenomenal Papercraft can hardly believe these beautiful white sculptures aren’t actually 3D computer renderings, but they’re all made of paper. English artist Richard Sweeney creates awesome modular paper sculptures inspired by organic forms found in nature and designed entirely by hand.

Sweeney primarily uses little more than a ruler and paper cutter to create his intricate sculptures, painstakingly bending and folding each piece of paper. Some of his pieces are glued together while others have pleats and don’t require the help of adhesive in order to hold their complex shapes. Sweeney’s paper sculptures vary in size from those that sit on a table-top to enormous floor-to-ceiling installations.

Sweeney is currently showing some of his work in a group exhibition entitled Above the Fold that’s currently touring the US.
