May Sickness: 3

Chapter 3
            …so much despair.
The memories they shared, the thoughts of love, everything exited his mind. Darkness surrounded him, vision escaped from his being. Felix could no longer hear Rose’s pleas, her anguished moans. The strength in his legs gave out, no longer able to support his body. Felix reached for stability, in his blind, weaken state he found the wall he had just been leaning against. What’s going on? She needs my help!

The man ran his hand along Rose’s waist. He caressed her breast. She continually cried, crying from the pain, the humiliation, and the helplessness.
Again she let out a cry, “Help me! Someone help! Please stop!”
Those walking by continued on their way. Thoughts of helping that poor girl were pushed from their minds, to give room for their wants and needs. The value of one girl's life was miniscule; her fate meant nothing to them and nothing to the world. Those still in the audience like crowd, continued to to watch in depraved curiousity. All could be stopped with a simple call to the police, though more than likely it would all be over before they came and were unlikely to do anything once there.
Her attacker then said with a smile, “Well girl, it seems like no ones going to help you.” It was true, Rose knew it. She just hoped Felix would not do anything precipitous or anything that would put him in danger. As long as nothing happens to him, I’ll be okay.
The man’s hand sled down her pants and…
The sheer thought, the mere temperment of the situation caused Felix to go blind in rage. The anger numbed him and he lost control of his senses.
What is this? I can see them, no I can feel them. I can feel everything, but why? Felix could see everything that was occurring, not just in front of him, he could see everything; above him, below him, behind him, he could see everything. The people watching television in the buildings around him, chefs cooking in restaurants, people eating, people fighting, people killing, people screwing, everything. Felix no longer felt those emotions; sorrow, pity, helplessness, he felt at peace, calm even in harmony with the world around him and the people around him.
Felix could easily hear the irritating thoughts of those passing by, raping a girl in broad daylight, that bastard must be retarded. Someone will help her, what can I do that one has a gun. Someone will stop to help her.
It was hard. Like the stories of the rare cases that a great injustice happens before a mass of people and no one acted for the good of the individual.
What the hell! No one is stopping to help! He had to find a way to help Rose, his body still paralyzed, not from fear, but from something else, anger. The awe of reading their minds did not sink into Felixs mind, the pressing matter was Rose.
Yeah make a move you bastard, I’ll fucking shot you. The one in black thought as he still held the gun pointed at Felix’s head. The man smiled at the thought of taking a life, throwing a piece of gabage away. Every other thought in his mind was that of evil and malicious deeds.
Screwing this bitch is going to feel so damn good! The other man thought as he continued to defile Rose. The anger swellled inside Felix at the man’s thoughts of besmurching Rose’s honor and purity.
Please, just run away. I don’t want you to die! The pious thought of a true saint, so touching, so selfless. That thought showed Felix Rose was too good for him, she was too good for everyone, especially that squalid piece of human refuse touching her.
“How dare you say that! I would rather die, than run away while you get hurt!” Felix was no longer leaning his body against the wall. The strength in his legs had returned, he could see again, he could hear, and he still felt everything. He stood there, staring at the man defiling the woman he loved, not paying any attention to the man aiming a gun at him.
“What did you say motherfucker? Ain’t no one talking. Get the hell out of here.” With his gun he motioned toward the sidewalk. Felix did not look at or even acknowledge the man, or his words. “You deaf?! Look at me when I’m talking to…” He stopped, Felix had started to walk toward him.
As Felix walked, he slid his hand across the wall. The underlying surface disintegrated as his hand went across it. Large portions of brick fell to the ground, only to break down into smaller and smaller pieces, and eventually dust before they reached their destination.
The gun was pointed, its barrel's path, directly at Felix’s head. But it did little to make Felix stop, his course was set and nothing not even the thought of death change it.
The hammer of the gun came crashing down on the primer and… Bang! The bullet sped through the air, traveling on a direct route to its target. Time appeared to slow through Felixs eyes, as if he could easily dodge it. Rose screamed after the gun went off, No.
Inches away from his skull, the bullet stopped. The outer copper coat dissolved away, leaving the lead core. It then, as the copper did, dissolved. A copper and lead powder fell to Felix’s feet.
“What the fu…” Again the man’s words were cut short, Felix’s hand was in front of his face. He started to walk backwards, towards the wall. Felix moved insync with the man, his hand staying a constant length away from his face.
Felix’s hand finally made contact with the man’s skin and slowly pressed against the gunman’s face…
Felix slammed the man’s head against the wall. With so such force, the front of his skull failed, followed be the sides. Sharp pieces of bone ripped through skin, with that the gray matter found a point to escape the pressure. Blood sprayed onto Felix’s face, while some ran down the wall and collected on the ground.
The body fell, a nearly headless corpse lying in a pool of its own blood. It made a small splash and the blood soated into Felixs shoed. He started to walk ago, the sound of squishing shoes seemed to stand out from the rest of the noise, a trail of blood followed.
The man released Rose, and started to walk backward. He looked at the body of his companion. “Please do…” he started to speak, but was interrupted.
“How many times… how many times did she beg you to stop?!” Felix yelled as he started to approach the man. Rose stared at the body before her. She had never seen such a horrific scene, such brutality. She looked at Felix, just as a child would look at a monster… she feared him.
“Please dude just wait,” the man begged. He was staring at Felix, then… Felix disappeared, moving at such a speed the man’s eye could not track him. “Where the hell?”
Felix was in front of the man, he placed his hand on the man’s stomach. The man started to talk, “Pleasss,” Blood ran from his mouth, as his organs became shredded and started to rush through his asaphagas and down his neck.
”You will die in the most painful of ways!” Felix yelled, his time for revenge had come. The once weak and timid boy now had power and protect the woman he loved. He tilted his head to the side and he curled his fingers. He could feel the energy swell within him, like a part of his body he knew that he could control it.
His arms, starting from the tips of his finger started to be ripped apart. The skin sheared from muscle, muscle from bone and the bone then being crushed. Like a million tiny hands grabbing bits and pieces, then ripping them off. Blood sprayed onto the sides of the buildings.
“Aaaaaaah!” The man let out a deafening scream. A gargling noise came from his throat as he choked on his own blood.  A bloody mist filled the air. Rose sat on the ground, watching the events transpiring. Droplets of blood started to form on her face.
His legs, just as his arms, started to be ripped apart. His body, not falling to the ground with the departure of his legs, stayed lingering in the air. An unbelievable sight, unspokeable violence. Such horror transpirering in that dingy alley. Blood, mangled meat and crushed bone.
“Aaaaah! Whaatttt Thhhee fuuuuckkk!” Still conscious he yelled, his voice cracked, bloody tears surged from his eyes. Death was quickly aproaching, his cold embrace blanketing the man.
“Aren’t you a noisy little prick!” Felix smiled as he said those words. His clothes pass the point of saturation, with blood trickling from them. With the man’s bleeding body as the epicenter, a puddle of blood, yards across, engulfed the alley. It out numbered the rain the continually fell.
And that it did, the rain still fell, making ripples in the blood. Would there ever be an end to the foul weather? It did not matter if the mood changed or the weather the horrific scene would still remain in that alley. The rain might clean some of the gore from the walls but the streets would still run red.
The man’s body became numb, he no longer cried. “So what will you do now?” He asked in a rhetorical manner, trying to instill some guilt in Felix. He would still die, the pain he had felt was unimaginable, Felix had kept his word.
“What will I do? I’m going to fucking kill you!” And with that he did. The man’s abdomen exploded, a mass of blood, globs of meat, and mangled organs flew through the air, some hitting the buildings, while others were thrown down the alley. A few fell on Felixs shoulder which he promptly wiped off.
His head, or more so his bust, fell to the ground. Felix stepped on it, crushing it. His skull cracked and eventually failed, falling into the brain cavity, crushing its content. Blood came from his remaining orifices. Unlike that his friends, the flesh of his skull was not torn by jagged pieces of bone, more his head resembled that of a crushed aluminum can.
“Rose are you okay?” Felix looked down at Rose, she was shaking and did not look at him. She was afraid of him, her compassionate nature would not let her accept that what just happened was for her protection. “Here,” He reached out his hand, “come on.” She grabbed his hand and he helped her up.
Felix embraced her in his arms, “I’m so sorry.” He knew that what he had just exposed her to would affect Rose for the rest of her life. He… regretted it… he should have done it in a less than flamboyant way, less messy. But they needed to die.
Rose looked into his eyes, “Thank you, I love you so much.” Tears continued to flow from her eyes, cutting a trail through her blood covered cheeks. She was still shaking, still afraid of the man she loved, but love none the less and she was thankful for what she did.
“I love you too, I love you more than anything.” He was also crying. If there was such a thing as true love, they had it. Such purity and passion needed to be protected and he would kill anyone that stood in his way now. They embraced in each others arms, emotions flowing, listening to the dulcet sound of each others breathing and heart beat. In that state for quite some time, they did not acknowledge the world around them, Felix ignored the happenings around him and just concentrated on Rose and she did the same.
It was almost like how it was before… before they moved deeper within that shit covered city, before the rains had came and made the life miserable. When they held each other it was like they had always been there for each other, like they had always loved one another. Every moment they were apart felt like an eternity, with more suffering than either of them had felt in the entirety of their lives.
As they left the warm protection of each others arms, the isolation and love that formed in each others presences, and went back into the cruel world Felix noticed something…
In front of the alley the cluster of people that had started to congregate ust have been present and had witnessed the murder. How long have they been there? Did they see what happened, what I did? Of course they had, he knew it. They had seen everything, Felix killing two men in a way that points toward supernatural forces.
“Rose,” His voice composed. Even with his heart racing and the tears just stopping moments ago his presents created an aura of Everything will be okay. But he was lying to himself.
“Yes?” She asked wiping away the tears. She grazed the cut on her cheek, giving a wince of pain.
“We need to get out of here.” He said in a calm voice, trying not to upset her. Anything that he could do to get that deep fear from being in her eyes, was necessary. Felix could not stand the thought that the woman he loved could or more so was seeing him as a monster.
“Why?” But as she turned, she could see the reason, the reason being ever so present since the beginning of the attack. It had escaped both there minds for the longest as the needed to concentrated at the moment at hand. But now a new course of action was needed.
“Let’s go!” Felix held her hand and ran toward the street, leaving behind the terrible scene that he had made. The bodies laying there in blood and water.
Her fear faded, she knew that Felix would never hurt her. She knew that if they would have been attacking anyone else Felix would have reacted differently, and if he had been and one else no action would have been taken. Even if he was a cold hearted and uncaring boy, Rose knew that she was the exception. That she could warm his heart and that he would never stop caring for her.
On the sidewalk they ran through the crowd, but…
…but as they ran through the crowd they did not notice what was truly happening. The true magnitude of the events, the true horror that was to come.
The droplets of rain stayed suspended in the air. The men and women on the sidewalks lay frozen in their tracks, like statues, they acted only as obstacles to run around. The gas vapor, in combustion engines, remained partially ignited. The spray of the puddles tires ran through remained in air. The stream on blood in the alley stopped flowing. Even the blood flowing in the veins of every individual stopped. Electrons moving through copper wire were frozen, no longer moving, and so much more remained static. Time frozen and Rose and Felix did not seem to notice. They continued to run, they ran in fear, they ran for survival, but to them they were together and nothing else was more important.
If they knew the manner in which the Gears of Fate were turning, life would have been much more saturnine, even making that rainy day more cold and horrendous. Love may be strong and the bond they had may have been unbreakable but there is only a single constant, a single undeniable true and a single power that out weighs all… Death.
From within the darkness, men and women dressed in black hooded cloaks materialized. Their faces were concealed within the shadows cast by their hoods. The halting of time did not seem to affect them. They walked through the streets, walking into droplets of rain, their cloaks retaining the moisture. The physical world seemed to be affected by them, puddles splashed as they stepped in them, the physical interaction was their only attachment to the world.
They walked through the street in waves, walking around the cars. Slight murmurings could be heard coming from them. Even with the spectra like appearance, there was no denying that they were human. But for what reason were they there? Could they have been the reason for what appeared to have been time freezing?
It was when Felix saw these people in black that he finally noticed what was happening, he stopped. He could no longer feel or hear the heart beats of the men and women in the street. But he could still feel their life force, there was merely an absence of motion, of observation and of hope.
“What’s going on?” Rose asked as she finally noticed. The scene scared his but out of curiousity she reached out and touched a drop of rain. She turned to Felix, as she began to notice the hooded people. “Felix who are these people?” The sight confused her, hundreds of people slowly moving towards them, making no noise.
So much needed to be said, they needed time to sit to recollect and just be together. To go back to the docks, to watch the ships, to kiss… to just be kids. They both wanted a second chance at life, but still have each other. A future where they could be together, it was with her and only her that he ever fantasized about being with for the remainder of his life. He just hoped it was not to late.
“I don’t know… I don’t know.” Felix repeated, fear once again finding it’s was back into him. He did not want to frighten Rose, however it would be soon apparent to her, but he could clearly see that the black hooded people were surrounding them.
